Keeping Our Distance
Dear Friends,
On Sunday we had a chance to commission Pastor Kerrie as she headed off for three months of Sabbatical. It was a wonderful service and then a bit of a windy and mighty cold picnic, but very memorable. As Kerrie goes off on sabbatical I wanted to reiterate the importance of this season. Sabbatical is a biblical practice, it is shared in the Torah in conjunction with Sabbath keeping. The idea is to do something different every seven years, to let the land lie fallow. Just as very few people keep the sabbath, even fewer practice sabbatical. Now it is often only academics and pastors, and academics are now changing the name to a study year.
For these three months, it is important for Kerrie to be away from FPC, and for us to experience her not here. She will be in Bellingham for some of that time, but we want to promise together to keep our distance. Let us not email, text, or call her until she returns. If you run into her in the grocery store, you don’t need to hide, but don’t talk too long, and certainly don’t talk about church. Please pray for Kerrie’s season away, and even better, join us in all the amazing opportunities that she has made room for while she is gone.
