Lent begins next week!
Dear friends,
Next week is Ash Wednesday, the start of Lent. It snuck up on us again. Our special Lent flier just went out in the mail this week, all the info is available here as well.
Here are some important elements I want to highlight about this season:
Ash Wednesday
Ash Wednesday will take place at Saint James Presbyterian Church in Fairhaven. Some of us will be walking from FPC at 6pm that evening. This is a great way to celebrate the unity that we have with the other churches in the area and enter into this season.
FPC Lenten Book
The big theme this year is the book The Cultivated Life by an old friend, Susan Sanders Phillips. We encourage everyone to get the book and read and practice through the whole season. This book deserves to be savored and enjoyed. To make the space that is needed, I encourage you to abstain from something in your life, (TV, podcasts, games, movies, etc.) and spend that time reading and savoring this remarkable book. It is only 40 days… you can live without Spider Solitaire. Once you savor it, then talk about what you heard with others. How do they practice these ideas? We will be focusing on two chapters every Sunday as well as on our podcast every week, don’t give up that podcast. This is a great chance to really welcome the grace with some new holy habits. This book has something for everyone.
Service Trip
There is only one more week to sign up. This is truly a trip for all ages with meaningful work available for everyone. We hope you can join us.
New Website
Check it out! Our website minions have been hard at work constructing a new FPC website from the ground up. Check out the new photos, artwork, and content. Special prize for anyone can figure out where the new logo image, (found on the calendar page and giving page on the website) comes from.
P.S. It exists in the church building, that is all the hint you get.
Dip-a-Palooza
Huge thanks to all those who created tasty dips for our very first ever Dip-a-Palooza. It was an unqualified success that we plan to set up as a yearly tradition. There were some incredible dips across the board, but the prize went to one of our youth by one vote. This is a reminder of the importance of voting.
Blessings,
Doug Bunnell
